Homemade Dishwater Tablets!

One easy household diy that saves you  a ton of money is Homemade Dishwasher Tablets.  Plus, you’ll be stocking up your kitchen with safe and wonderful smelling cleaner! While the initial investment is a bit more (we spent around 12 dollars for ingredients), you can make dozens upon dozens of tablets! In fact, you can make far more than you would purchase for the same price at the store. Even better, you can customize the smell to your liking, or use the items for other homemade products. You can easily make a batch of these, pop them in a mason jar and add them to a basket with a pretty dish towel and a scrub brush for a lovely gift during the holiday season.

These homemade citrus dishwasher tabs are part of our 2016 Hand Made Christmas Gifts Series!

Directions for Homemade Dishwasher Tablets:

Combine washing soda, borax, grated lemon peel and epsom salt in a large bowl and stir until well mixed. We used some dried orange peel we had on hand from another project, but you could use fresh orange peel like we normally do.

Drop in essential oil to your desired scent strength and mix.

Add lemon or lime juice and quickly mix together with your hands.

Use  a 1 T. measuring spoon to scoop up the mixture, press in firmly, and gently flip out into your hand. img_28141Lay on a sheet of waxed paper and allow to dry for several hours. You could also put your dishwasher tablet mixture in a mold, or silicone ice cube. We think candy molds work best and are the easiest to remove your tablets from.

Place your tablets in a container with a tight fitting lid. They should fit perfectly in a 1 quart mason jar.

To use: Place one tablet in the soap section of your dishwasher. Or, if it doesn’t fit just pop it in the bottom of dishwasher.
